How to Buy a Fastpitch Softball Bat

 
Generally, the best way to pick out a fastpitch softball bat is to pick the one that you feel most comfortable with. Your bat is probably the most important piece of equipment that you can purchase and they can be quite expensive!  Keep a few things in mind when picking out your bat.
 
  • Check out the rules for your league! If you don't already know the rules, ASK FIRST before purchasing a bat. Almost every league has certain rules on the type of bat that can be used.
  • Know how much you want to spend before you go out to look! They can be relatively expensive, but if you decide on a price first, then you know what you can and cannot afford. If you have your heart set on a particular bat and it seems a little out of your range - check the internet! There are tons of online discount suppliers where you may be able to find that perfect softball bat at the perfect price.
  • Make sure you are looking at a bat specifically for FASTPITCH softball. You may not notice the difference, but there are bats geared for only fastpitch. Usually they are shorter and lighter than other bats.
  • To me, this is the most important rule - get the recommendation of your coach!  They see things that you may not notice and could possible help you out with your choice. Whatever bat you decide on, make sure YOU are comfortable with it. If you aren't comfortable, you won't be able to hit that ball out of the park!
